Containers are shipping from the Port of Lewiston to the Port of Morrow in Boardman, Oregon, where they are transported by rail to the Port of Tacoma, Washington, then to overseas destinations.
This unique barge and rail program allows for the efficient movement of containers by barge from Lewiston, despite the loss of carrier service at Portland’s Terminal 6.
We encourage you to take advantage of this new barge-rail service; a certain level of cargo is needed to keep it viable. The service is currently offered on a bi-weekly basis and there is a per box savings for shippers. Plans are to offer weekly service in the future.
Partners in creating the service include: Hapag-Lloyd, Northwest Container Services Inc., The Northwest Seaport Alliance, Port of Morrow, Port of Portland, Tidewater, Union Pacific, Westwood Shipping Lines and the Port of Lewiston.
Call Port of Lewiston Container Traffic Manager Kim Petrie at (208) 743-3209 to book containers or to learn more about the new Container Barge-Rail Shuttle Service.
