Port of Woodland Commissioners last night selected Jennifer Keene to replace Nelson Holmberg as the port’s executive director.
Keene has previously worked as a regional economic development planner for the Cowlitz-Wahkiakum Council of Governments.
Port of Woodland commissioners have been interviewing candidates and discussing the hire in closed-door executive sessions and public meetings for the last several weeks. Other finalists for the position included Michael Beardsley, Mik Hendrickson and Ruth Linoz. Commissioner Jerry Peterson said Keene did “an excellent job” answering interview questions.
“I’ve got high hopes,” Peterson said.
The commission wanted somebody able to take care of tenant needs, help the port grow and run a profitable business, he said. They also wanted someone willing to emphasize daily work over government meetings unrelated to the port, Peterson said.
The director receives a $61,000 salary.
Holmberg, the port’s previous director, accepted a job with BergerABAM, which provides consulting services for the maritime industry. His last day at the port was March 14.
