Rescuers pulled a man out of the water Tuesday night after he allegedly set his boat, docked at the Port of Everett Marina, on fire.

Police responded to a call about a suicidal man at the marina on the 1700 block of West Marine View Drive at about 8:20 p.m., said Aaron Snell, spokesman for the Everett Police Department. Fire officials said the man had set his boat on fire after a domestic dispute.

“There was an explosion on the boat,” said bystander Eric Rindal, who recorded video of the fire. Rindal said firework-like purple sparks popped out of the explosion.

After heavy smoke forced the man to jump into the water, rescuers pulled him out, according to Everett Fire Department Fire Marshal, Rick Robinson.

The man was sent to the Colby Campus of Providence Regional Medical Center in Everett in unknown condition.

Robinson said firefighters were able to put out the fire before it spread to nearby boats.
