Port signs Overstock lease; hiring begins in February

December 23, 2016, KXRO Newsradio will be bringing 150 jobs to Satsop, and the first 50 will be coming as soon as February.

On Wednesday, the Port of Grays Harbor Commissioners approved the lease of their FlexTech Building at the Satsop Business Park to the online retailer to locate their first call center in the Northwest.

Global Garland crew ready to make most of Christmas abroad

The Global Garland, its captain and 21-member Filipino crew find themselves abroad for Christmas.

They arrived Tuesday at the Port of Olympia to load logs and will top off the load at the Port of Longview before the ship sails for Japan and China. Christmas Day will be spent in Longview, said Capt. Quirico Ilad, who met with a reporter Wednesday while the ship was docked at the local marine terminal.

Ilad is under contract for nine months, then is off for two to four months, he said. Ilad, 54, first went to sea when he was 20 and has been a captain the last 15 years. A Catholic, Ilad said it can be very lonely during Christmas, but the job remains important.

WA:  Tri-Cities Airport unveils new security checkpoint for holiday travelers

Holiday travelers will have a little more breathing room when they pass through security at the Tri-Cities Airport in Pasco.

The Port of Pasco unveiled the expansive new passenger screening area Wednesday, just in time for the departures of its six morning flights and their 500-plus passengers.

The Transportation Security Administration moved its equipment into the new passenger screening zone Tuesday night and had two operating lanes going by morning.
