The town and cities of Bucoda, Tenino, Rainier and Yelm have each received $10,000 from the Port of Olympia as part of its small cities economic development program.
Here’s how the money will be spent:
-Bucoda: to help fund a professional contractor to continue restoration of the first floor of Bucoda’s historic Oddfellows Building, eventually transforming it into a community center.
-Tenino: to help build a public market space and pathway, linking downtown with the city park.
-Rainier: to help develop a comprehensive parks plan that will position the city for future parks grant funding.
-Yelm: to help fund preliminary work needed for a multipurpose community center.
The port’s operating income, not tax dollars, fund the $10,000 awards.
