Port of Walla Walla Commissioner Ron Dunning said Wednesday he will seek a second six-year term for the economic development agency.

Dunning, who currently serves as commission president, was elected in 2009. He represents District 3 in the nonpartisan seat. That district covers the western portion of Walla Walla County, including College Place, Touchet, Lowden, Burbank, Eureka and Clyde.

The filing period for the more than 70 elected positions across Walla Walla opens May 11. This year’s primary is Aug. 4. The general election is Nov. 3.

Dunning said he wants to continue serving to see numerous projects through completion, including the widening of U.S. Highway 12 and Port property development in Burbank and Wallula. Transportation issues have been of particular interest, he said.

“There’s a lot up in the air,” Dunning said.

The owner of Dunning Irrigation and co-owner of Touchet Seed & Energy, Dunning is currently expanding his business in Milton-Freewater. He and his wife, Dana, also own and revitalized the Whiteside Building on Walla Walla’s Main Street. It houses Forward Boutique, Dama Wines and 51 East Main — luxury upper-floor apartments.
