Jim Knight, who joined the Port of Olympia in 2006, is the new marine terminal director, replacing Jim Amador, who has chosen to work part-time as he approaches retirement.
Knight had served as acting marine terminal director since July 2013.
Knight began his career at the port as the marketing and business development manager, and then his duties grew to focus primarily on the marine terminal.
Port Executive Director Ed Galligan, who appointed Knight to the new job, said he has made significant contributions to increasing business at the terminal.
“He has been very successful in securing new business in China and has secured several grants that have strengthened port security,” Galligan said in a statement.
Prior to the port, Knight held vice president and general manager positions at businesses throughout Puget Sound focused on marketing, business development, seafood processing and trucking.
Amador, meanwhile, who had served as marine terminal director since 2004, will become senior marine terminal manager.
He said he will work fewer hours, having more time to spend with his wife and grandchildren.
“We are glad that we are able to accommodate his desire to work fewer hours, yet we still have the benefit of his significant expertise, experience and professional contacts throughout the port industry,” Galligan said in a statement.
