Port of Bellingham Commissioner Scott Walker Set to Retire

November 26, 2013, The Northern Light

The community is invited to attend a public reception honoring port commissioner Scott Walker’s 22 years of service on the port’s board of commissioners.

The reception will be from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, December 5, at the Squalicum Boathouse located at 2600 Harbor Loop (Zuanich Park), Bellingham. Light refreshments will be served.

Walker has served on the port commission since 1991. He decided not to run for re-election this year and his term will end on December 31.

“Commissioner Walker has contributed greatly to the steady course and community economic leadership of the Port of Bellingham,” said commission president Jim Jorgensen. “His knowledge of port history and his wealth of experience will be missed.”

Under Walker’s leadership, the port undertook a significant expansion of the Bellingham International Airport facilities and launched major real estate developments such as Bellwether on the Bay alongside Squalicum Harbor. The port also adapted to significant local economic changes such as the closure of the Georgia Pacific Pulp and Paper Mill and the downturn of bulk shipping.
