Off Interstate 5, less than a mile down Kalama River Road, the sounds of summer are buzzing.
The whoosh of a soccer ball through the air. The smack a baseball against the bat. Laughter and giggling as kids and parents dine on snow cones and nachos.
From now on, those sounds will be louder and more frequent in Kalama, thanks to the Port of Kalama’s new $4.5 million, 24-acre Haydu Park, christened Friday.
Haydu is the first large park built in Cowlitz County in more than a decade, and the port, city officials and local coaches hopes its multiple sports courts and fields will make it the perfect to host tournaments.
