June 25th, 2014, KONP

Terminal 1 at the Port of Port Angeles, is close to undergoing several upgrades, but a few extra additions to the project have been added to the mix.

In their Tuesday meeting, the Port Commissioners approved $62,000-dollars in extra funding that will be paid to “Berger ABAM” as the contracted permitting and design firm.

Port officials had allowed for changes in the design phase of the project, which now totals $337,000-dollars. The additional upgrades include:

“Headline Dolphin” maintenance and “Breasting Dolphin” redesign. A dolphin is a man-made marine structure that typically consists of a number of piles driven into the seabed to provide a platform for mooring or cushioning a ship. Also included was the addition of a 50-ton mooring bollard and pile repairs.
