The Port of Port Angeles could be awarded a $1.5 million from the U.S. Economic Development Administration for the redevelopment of Terminal 1, the main port pier along the Port Angeles waterfront.
The final decision of who is awarded the grant will come in September, but the Port is ecstatic about the potential grant.
Port Director of Engineering Chris Hartman says the pier needs fixing as it was built 1926 and upgraded several times over the decades.
Hartman says if the port gets the grant waterfront dependent businesses could improve economically. He say that’s one of the reasons why this repair is important to the community.
The redevelopment of Terminal 1 is a two-year project costing $3,000,000. Although hopeful for the $1.5 million grant, Hartman says they will still apply for other grants.
