The Port is pleased to announce its new Director of Finance; Ms. Karen Goschen. As the Director of Finance, Karen is responsible for planning, organizing and directing the Port’s finance, accounting, audit, insurance, and risk management functions. The position also is responsible for preparation of budgets including the Port’s capital and operating budget, supervision of department staff, and contributing to the Port’s overall goals and strategies.
Karen has held executive-level management positions in Finance since 1998 and has been responsible for presenting financial and operational results to governing boards for both nonprofit and government entities. She has also held positions in management consulting focusing on process improvement, strategic planning and financial systems, and has taught college level business and finance courses.
Karen earned her Bachelors of Science degree in Accounting and Finance from California State University graduating Summa Cum Laude, and a Masters of Business Administration, with a concentration in Finance from the University of Colorado. She also studied law at the University of Colorado.
“The Port is proud to have Karen on our team. Her vast experience paired with her keen analytical eye is just what we need. I am confident she will take the Port to new levels with technology and our finances,” says Executive Director, Jeff Robb. Karen began her career with the Port on August 30th.
Karen relocated to Sequim in 2004 selecting it as her first-choice city to live, work and eventually retire. Since the 1980s, Karen has volunteered countless hours for several nonprofit causes. Karen enjoys traveling and has visited almost all the states and European countries. She has worked in Germany, the Dominican Republic, England and New Zealand. Karen renews her spirit by walking her dogs and spending time in the great outdoors.
