By Ellen M. Banner, July 21, 2015, The Seattle Times

The center runway at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport is under reconstruction.

More than 300,000 square yards of concrete from the existing runway is being recycled and crushed on site into gravel that will be used as the subbase for the new runway, taxiways and shoulders.

The new runway will consist of 8 inches of crushed rock subbase, 4 inches of asphalt and 18 inches of Portland-cement concrete.
