Big Grant Opportunities This Year
The Recreation and Conservation Office (RCO) is accepting applications for the Boating Infrastructure Grant (BIG) program. BIG funds are given to public and private facility operators across the state for development of boating facilities for guest recreational boats 26 feet and larger. The first round of applications are due to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service in early May, so RCO has established an expedited schedule for applicants who need funding this fall. RCO also is accepting applications for the regular grant cycle and the deadlines for both rounds are as follows:
- Applications Due – Round One: April 26, 2013 (Grants awarded in October 2013)
- Applications Due – Round Two: June 3, 2013 (Grants awarded Spring 2014)
With such a tight timeline, if you want to submit a BIG application, the most important thing to do right now is to contact your outdoor grants manager.
The funding, which addresses needs for guest boating facilities, navigational aids, and upland support structures, such as restrooms and showers, is from the Sport Fish Restoration and Boating Trust Fund administered by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
The grant program helps ensure Washington remains a destination for boaters and that our waterways remain healthy.
