Legislative leaders maintain the May 31st waiver extension deadline; public records responses are now due within five days

Legislative leaders maintained the May 31st waiver extension for the Open Public Meetings Act (OPMA) and Public Records Act (PRA) in a letter to Governor Inslee dated May 11th. In it, they reaffirm the deadline on waiver extensions for the OPMA and PRA as ending on May 31st. Although it’s not certain when ports will need to begin planning on how to safely handle public attendance at meetings while following all applicable social distancing and public health guidelines, it’s a good practice to begin planning. See the letter here.

The five-day window for public record response time waiver elapsed yesterday, May 11, so all governments in Washington now need to comply with a response to a public records request within five business days.

WPPA will be hosting a Tuesday Roundtable on May 26th designed to help your port plan for holding public meetings, public records requests while considering public health and safety guidelines.
