The pandemic has changed many aspects of daily life, perhaps not the least of which is our ability and willingness to travel. As such, the impact on air travel and airport traffic around the world has been substantial—and its impacts are being felt in Washington state.

The Tuesday Roundtable today focused on statewide airport concerns, with a broad focus on what changes to the travel and tourism industry might mean for ports in Washington. We will look at many issues, including federal relief and regional concerns.

Specifically, we heard from WSDOT’s David Fleckenstein on updates Commercial Aviation Coordinating Commission (CACC), concerning updates to regional airports in Washington and coordinating health requirements for Washington airports. We also heard from Port of Seattle’s Eric ffitch on efforts under way to increase traveler confidence and safety when using SeaTac (now known as SEA). Regional airports in Pasco and Walla Walla also gave an update on what they are seeing in terms of airport traffic and revenue during the pandemic.
