We’ve asked state legislative leaders and the Governor to extend key waiver deadlines

Late last week, legislative leaders chose not to extend key waivers on the Open Public Meetings Act, the Public Records Act, and the annual filing deadline beyond May 5th. This date doesn’t give Ports enough time to plan and prepare for opening their facilities to the public, nor does it allow staff, many of whom have been working from home, to gather materials to meet the annual filing deadline with the Office of the Washington State Auditor.

We sent a letter to leaders of the state House and Senate, as well as to the Governor on Friday to ask for an extension of these key waivers until July 1, 2020. Ports need a chance to determine how to safely hold public meetings and return to work given the continued importance of social distancing in the fight against COVID-19.
