Remembering Jack Block, the only longshore worker elected to the Port of Seattle Commission

Jack Block, former Commissioner of the Port of Seattle and longshore worker, died last month on November 1st at the age of 86. The Washington Public Ports Association commemorates his public service as the longest serving Port of Seattle Commissioner— 28 years.

Among Mr. Block’s many accomplishments on the Port of Seattle commission, he helped to recreate the downtown waterfront, advance environmental clean up efforts, and developing real estate opportunities on port property.
