Laura Watson was appointed by Governor Inslee to lead Ecology on December 20, 2019. Prior to her appointment, Watson served as the senior assistant attorney general in the Ecology Division of the Attorney General’s Office. As chief legal counsel to the Director of the Department of Ecology, she provided advice and representation to Ecology’s 10 environmental programs and to the agency’s administration. Among her other professional accomplishments, she served as the deputy solicitor general in the Attorney General’s Office.
As the new director of Ecology, Ms. Watson will share her priorities for the agency and offer her thoughts about how she plans to work with port districts protect public health and the environment.
Elected port leaders will be especially interested to hear her thoughts about how to ensure MTCA cleanup funds are retained for their intended uses. We look forward to her thoughts about how we can work together to shape efficient and effective standards.
We welcome Director Watson and wish her every success in her role.
