WPPA awards outgoing Port of Olympia commissioner Bill McGregor an Outstanding Service to the Industry award
The Washington Public Ports Association is pleased to announce that outgoing Port of Olympia Commissioner Bill McGregor has won the Outstanding Service to the Industry Award, an award for an individual that provides exemplary service to the port community.
Bill served in the United States Coast Guard and after an honorable discharge, he continued his education and obtained a degree in Transportation Logistics.
Bill has been active with Washington state ports for over 42 years. He has worked at executive staff levels with the Ports of Tacoma, Olympia, and Grays Harbor.
In 1995, while as a staff member at the Port of Olympia, he was recognized by the American Public Port Authorities as attaining a designation of a Certified Public Port Manager – one of only 57 in the port worldwide industry at that time.
In 2000, after 27 years in the Washington state port industry, Bill retired from the Port of Grays Harbor, moved his family back to Lacey, and went to work for Saint Martin’s University as the Director of Facilities Management. In 2006, he was appointed to a vacant Port of Olympia Commission seat and has been in that elected position ever since.
Not only has Bill given his time and knowledge to bettering the port industry, he and his wife Barbara have dedicated their time to being foster parents for more than 39 years. They have opened their home to children for a night, weeks, months, and have had several stay for multiple years.
