Funding Washington's vital transportation infrastructure: a talk with Senator Steve Hobbs & Senator Curtis King
Washington’s transportation budget is in trouble- the release of the most recent transportation economic forecast shows deep gaps in funding vital infrastructure in the state. Washington is rapidly growing, and transportation requires investment if the state is going to keep pace with demand.
To keep the conversation going about ensuring Washington’s transportation needs are adequately funded, we are honored to have Senator Steve Hobbs and Senator Curtis King joining us on March 24th at 10am.
This talk focuses on both Senators’ plans to fund transportation infrastructure in the state, and the tools they suggest using for the job. We’ve put together a helpful graphic and a vlog on the five transportation proposals before the legislature in 2021.
Come for an open conversation with Senators Steve Hobbs and Curtis King, and bring your questions.
What's in the American Rescue Plan? A talk with Van Ness Feldman
Last week, the House of Representatives passed the Senate’s version of the $1.9T American Rescue Plan, which President Biden signed into law. In addition to providing $1,400 direct payments to individuals that meet certain income criteria, the legislation provides over $7B in stimulus and other payments to Washington state, its cities, counties, and other local governments.
While there seems to be money that port districts can avail themselves of through this bill, we wanted to be able to provide an expert look at this very large bill’s contents.
We are pleased to have Rick Agnew from Van Ness Feldmen joining WPPA on Thursday March 18th at noon to provide details about what’s in the American Rescue Plan, and what may be next on the horizon in Washington D.C.
Rep. Jake Fey & Rep. Joe Fitzgibbon talk carbon and transportation
Transportation is a key legislative priority for Washington Public Ports Association in 2021—it’s received a lot of attention in the legislature, and there are many proposals on how best to tackle transportation’s adequate funding.
That’s why we are excited to host Representatives Jake Fey and Joe Fitzgibbon, chairmen of the House Transportation and the House Environment and Energy committees, respectively, on March 11th from 9:00 to 10:00am. They will share the status of a Transportation Package, carbon pricing either through Cap & Invest or a carbon tax, and the Clean Fuel Standard, and provide participants with an informed assessment of the session so far and a prognosis for these bills in the days ahead.
